Rain or shine

The fall and winter of 2020 were relatively dry (by the California standards), but we had a few rains in November right at the time when framing was done. I was a bit concerned about the effects of the rain (mold?), but after talking to my contractor and doing some research, I figured that in most cases, rain should not be a problem. At least, not in California.

In case you are worried about your house being built during a rainy season, as long as there is no standing water and there is enough ventilation, in California weather, it should generally be alright. If you think about it, your house frame is made of wood. And wood comes from the trees. And the trees grow in the forest. And you know what happens in the forest? Rain. Lots of rain.

Now, if you do a bit of research and listen to experts, you will find that there are cases when rain can be a problem. For example, if moisture content of the frame goes over 19%, some intervention may need to happen, but I suspect this is more of an issue in more humid and colder climates. A disclaimer: I am not an expert, and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so if in doubt, talk to your contractor.
