The permit
My contractor submitted the application for the building permit in August and it took a couple of months to get through the approval process. I think he had to do one revision or something like that, but since I was not part of these activities, I was not paying much attention.

Frankly, at that time, I was still not sure if the project would be approved or if it would be the last phase of a nice dream, but in November, the county gave us the green light and we could start building.
IMPORTANT: In case you do not know, in Sacramento Country, you must start construction within 12 months of the permit approval (in other municipalities, the time frame may be different). If you do not, after 12 months you will need to re-submit the paperwork and pay the fees again. By that time, the fees may be raised and/or the requirements changed, so you should do your best to get the project off the ground.
