A case against IKEA appliances
If you didn't know, IKEA sells kitchen appliances: over-the-range microwaves, dishwashers, ranges, ovens, refrigerators. Consumer Reports recommended them when they did a report in 2017.
One of the best things about IKEA appliances is a 5-year warranty, which is unprecedented (normally, appliances come with a 1-year warranty, with the exception of appliances sold at Costco which have a 2-year warranty). So, if you buy an IKEA appliance with a Costco VISA card (that extends manufacturer warranty by 2 years*), you are covered by a 7-year warranty. Not bad, uh?
Well, as my luck had it, when I was ready to buy, IKEA was changing supplier from Whirlpool to Electrolux. First, although Electrolux is a major brand in Europe, it is not popular in the U.S. Their reliability score is way lower than Whirlpool's. And even if these were not a deterrent, IKEA had almost nothing in stock: old models were discontinued and the new ones haven't arrived, yet. So I had to take a more traditional route and buy appliances at Costco, Lowe's, and Home Depot. But when IKEA replenishes their stock, their appliances may be worth considering.
P.S. Don't buy IKEA kitchen sinks: they are crap (too thin). I bought one, read the reviews, and returned unopened.
* Unfortunately, this is no longer the case, since Costco VISA stopped offering extended warranty coverage.
